The National Honor Society is the nation’s oldest, largest, and most prestigious recognition program. Membership in the NHS is by invitation-only and is an honor bestowed upon deserving students by the faculty. Our purpose is to create enthusiasm and recognition for academic scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote leadership opportunities and qualities, and to develop character in the membership of our organization.
To be a candidate for selection into the NHS you must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.85
- Completed at least 5 hours of service within the last year
- Participated in at least one elected or appointed leadership position (in or out of school)
- Ask 3 faculty members to provide a character recommendation
If you meet the GPA requirement, you will receive an email from the NHS Advisors inviting you to fill out a form if you are interesting in joining the NHS. Once you have provided the required information, then the NHS Faculty Council will review that information and if you meet all of the requirements you will receive your official invitation to join the NHS.
If you are selected to be a member of NHS and you accept the invitation, you will be required to maintain your eligibility and fulfill the requirements of the Orem High Chapter, which are:
- Attend the NHS Opening Social
- Attend 3 out of 5 NHS service projects
- Complete 10 personal service hours
- Pay $10 in annual dues
- Attend the Induction Ceremony
